Robert Earl Bob" Griffin

Mr. Robert Earl ""Bob"" Griffin, 83, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Forsyth County on June 22, 1927 to the late Grady Miller Griffin Sr. and Beulah Mae Bodenhamer Griffin. Bob retired from Piedmont Airlines with 37 years of service where he was a supervisor in the fabric and paint shops. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rural Hall and always provided the donkey for the Nativity Scene at Christmas. Bob proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII. He loved showing his walking horses, hunting his dogs and driving his Model T in the Rural Hall Christmas Parade. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Donald Lee Griffin Jr., his twin sister, Merle Holt and two brothers, Grady Miller Griffin Jr. and R.A. Griffin. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Erma Griffin of the home, two sons, Donald Griffin and wife Denise and Terry Griffin and wife Janet both of Rural Hall, five grandchildren, Tina Hamilton (Eddie) of LaGrange, NC, Dietra Faith Lackey (Jason) of Rural Hall, Wayne Griffin (Valarie) of Winston-Salem, Jon Griffin (Teresa) of Walnut Cove and Jacob Griffin (Hillary) of Rural Hall, four great-grandchildren, Wyat, Nate, Lane and Julian and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Rural Hall with Pastor Keith McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Rural Hall Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
