Robert "Bob" Girard

Mr. Robert W. Girard, ""Bob,"" passed away on January 31, 2017 at the age of 83. He was born on October 13, 1933 in Baltimore, MD to the late Elizabeth Day Girard and Byron P. Girard. He is survived by his son, Stephen Girard and wife Rhonda of Richmond, VA; his daughter Sonja White and husband Walter of Texas; four grandchildren; two sisters, Joan G. Murphy of Wilmington, DE and Babette L. Girard of Los Osos, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob graduated from RJ Reynolds High School and from Wake Forest University in 1955. After working in the trucking industry for five years, Bob joined Security Life and Trust Company (Integon) in 1961. He became manager and vice president of Integon's Underwriting and Reinsurance Department. After 28 years with Integon, Bob formed his own consulting business, providing underwriting and reinsurance expertise to various insurance carriers until his retirement. Bob was a very loyal Demon Deacon fan and was active in the Winston-Salem Jaycees and Junior Achievement. He was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Autumn Care of Mocksville and Hospice and Palliative Care Center. Special thanks to the caring friends James Allen, Bob Owen, and Nancy Graham, and to Rachel Ijames for her wonderful attentiveness and caregiving. A memorial service will be held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, NC on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
