Robert Wayne Durham, 60, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 at his home. He had been in declining health for several years. A 1967 graduate of Parkland High School, Wayne attended Forsyth Tech before entering the United States Army. Wayne served an extended tour in Vietnam, and was exceedingly proud of his service to his country. He exemplified those values of personal generosity, faithfulness, and patriotism that are dear to this nation. Many will remember him for his tender heart, and his willingness to offer any assistance that he was able to give. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper Robert Durham and Annie Kimball Durham, and other dear family members. He is survived by his twin sister Elayne D. Green and her husband, Worth; by a nephew, Jonathan Green and wife Lindsay of Wilmington, N.C.; by a niece, Edyth G. Berry and husband Jason of Boone, N.C.; and by a great niece and nephew, Madison Averette Green and Worth Harrison Green of Wilmington, N.C. He is also survived by an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. John Odell Newsom; by a close knit group of cousins, who know his affection for them; and by a group of good friends known collectively as ""the Waffle House Gang."" Wayne attended New Philadelphia Moravian Church where a memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2009. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to a Charity of your choice. ""Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, yea says the Spirit, that they rest from their labors.""
