Robert John Dixon

Mr. Robert John Dixon, 75, of East Bend, NC passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2015. He was born on September 29, 1939 to John and Sarah Dixon. Born and raised on Long Island, NY, Bob had a passion for stock car racing and as a young man raced cars at Freeport Raceway, Long Island, NY. Later in life, he moved to NC and enjoyed the excitement once again at Bowman Gray Stadium as a member of the track crew and drove the victory truck. For 56 years he was a licensed member of NASCAR. His love of cars fueled his career as a tow truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, Glenn James Dixon of New York, Robert Simon of Ohio, and Billie Lynn Liparito (John) of Florida; his grandchildren, Daniel Shakespeare, Jennifer Couch, Christopher Liparito, Heather Liparito, Daniel Simon, Shawn Simon, and Melanie Simon; great-grandchildren, Larry Couch, Angelo Doran, Rosabella Liparito, Jasiah Liparito, Logan Simon, and Alex Simon; a sister, Hope Molesso of New York; two brothers, Roy Dixon (Hannelore) of North Carolina and James Dixon (Wilma) of New York. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. Inurnment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, NC. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting contributions to the American Cancer Society or Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Winston-Salem, NC.
