Robert Alexander Conrad, Sr., 80, of Lake Worth, FL passed away peacefully at Hospice of the Palm Beaches on March 25, 2011. He was born June 8, 1930 in East Bend, NC. He lived in NC until the age of 10 when his family moved to Perrine, FL. After graduating from high school, he was signed with the Miami Sun Sox, a Brooklyn Dodger baseball farm team as a pitcher. This career was very short lived due to injury. He then joined the Marine Corps, proudly serving 2 years active duty as an airplane mechanic and 6 years in the Reserves. He met his first wife, Peggy, during his active duty and they married and moved to south Florida on January 16, 1954. He began farming with his brother, Pete soon after moving to this area. He worked for other farming operations and partnered with other farmers for several years before he started his own business, Bob Conrad Farms, later renamed Conrad Farms, Inc, which he operated with great passion until his retirement in 1997. He was an honest, loving man who was extremely devoted to his family and those he held dear. He was a man of great integrity, honor and generosity, who lived his life based on his strong relationship with God. His was a life well lived. He is preceded in death by Peggy, his beloved first wife of 48 years; his parents, Pleasant H and Lelia B Conrad; brothers, Charles (Ida Pearl) and Dallas (Margaret); sister, Lillian Graham (Jack); Peggy's parents, Curtis Ray and Annie Smith; brother-in-law, Pete Smith and sister-in-law Jean Smith. He is survived by Dorene, his wife of 8 years who helped bring joy back into his life; daughters; Deborah McDade (Michael), Kathy Albert (Ron), Donna Sova (Chris); son Bob, Jr.; grandchildren, Heather Gonzalez (Robert), Jason Brewer, Shannon Brenner (Jason), Devin Sova (Abbey); great-grandchildren, Jacob Ramos, Katelyn Gonzalez, Bobby Gonzalez, Mariah Gonzalez and Eden Brenner; brother, Pete (Joyce); sisters, Mary Alice Driscoll and Nettie Reed (Charles); and step grandchildren, Natalie Oriol (Jason) and Andrea Albert. He is also survived by Dorene's children, Steve Neill (Linda), Mike Neill, Larry Neill and Delane (Pudge Guettler); and sister-in-law, Elaine Wharton (Charlie); Peggy's siblings, brothers-in-law, Chub Smith, Buck Smith (Rachel), Bob Smith (Jane); sisters-in-law Jean Clodfelter (Norman), Vickie Rothrock (David), Linda Murray (Craig), Nancy Smith; and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday March 30 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem. Funeral will be Thursday March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Boyer's Chapel Church of Christ, 798 S Peace Haven Rd, Winston Salem.
