Robert Coker

WINSTON SALEM - Robert Edward Coker, 82, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Robert was born in McMinn County TN on February 27, 1935 to Hardy Corn and Ethel Roberts Coker. He was a Veteran of the US Army and continued his service with the Tennessee National Guard, Robert retired from B E & K Construction of Birmingham, AL. Robert learned to fly planes in the Army, later obtaining his pilots license and enjoyed flying small planes. He also was a Classic Car Enthusiast, a love passed down from his father that he shared with his two brothers. He belonged to the Antique Car Club of America and the Buick Club of America. Robert participated in the "Great Race" for several years with his Buicks. He had an extensive collection of classic cars and was an avid Tennessee Volunteer Fan. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by daughter, Carla Jones; and two brothers, Harold Coker and Bill Coker.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Coker; 4 daughters, Cathy Brown, Connie Wyatt, Carrie Bennett, and Ashli Englebert (Adam); 7 grandchildren, Jeremy (Lindsay), Joey (Brie), Amber (Clay), Allison (Eric), Chris, Corey, and Sam; 8 great grandchildren, Landon, Lilly, Jayden, Kaden, Sevanna, Kyla, Kati, and Lynzie; 2 sisters-in-law, Lillian and Kay Coker; several nieces and nephews; and dearest friends, J.R. Keylon and Dennis Watts.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Bill Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Glenn View Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
