Mr. Robert Owen Cobb, age 70, of Clemmons, NC, passed away on September 23, 2022, after an extended illness. He was born on September 20, 1952, in Rockingham County as the only child of the late Johnnie Dixon Cobb and Frances Totten Cobb. He lived on the family farm in the Yanceyville/Reidsville area of Caswell County before moving to Winston-Salem after he married in 1992. He and his family moved to Clemmons in 2006. Mr. Cobb loved living in the Clemmons community and attending Clemmons First Baptist Church. Mr. Cobb graduated from Bartlett Yanceyville High School in 1970, after which he pursued his B.A. in Chemistry at Elon University, graduating in 1974. Following college, he was employed as an Environmental Chemist at Carolina ByProducts Group from May 1974 to June 1999. Seeking a career change and recognizing the trend toward technology, Mr. Cobb returned to Rockingham Technical Community College to obtain the Certified Network Engineer and was employed as Network Systems Administrator for Alamance Regional Hospital through March 2004, when health issues required he step down. Mr. Cobb loved gardening and had his own garden each year beginning at age 11 and continuing until his last days. Other interests were traveling and writing. He combined his interests by writing iBooks about each trip he took, with a slant on the environment, politics, culture, and natural aspects of the places he visited. He also wrote a historical murder novel, political analysis, and other nontravel related iBooks as well. All in all, his writings total about seventy iBooks. Mr. Cobb truly loved his family, immediate and extended. He extensively studied his lineage long before DNA kits became all the rage. In 1992 he married Joyce Ann Hensley of Winston-Salem. The family grew in 1999 when Mr. and Mrs. Cobb traveled to Khabarovsk, Russia to adopt their children, Johnnie Dixon Cobb II and Clara Elizabeth Cobb. In addition to his wife and children, Mr. Cobb is survived by mother in law Mary Elizabeth Hensley; sisters-in-law Connie Steinberg, Deborah (Wayne) Wilson; niece Heather (Adam Alphin) Wilson; nephews Brent (Cat) Wilson and Randall Steinberg; great nephews Thomas and Zachary Alphin; and step great niece Yumi Alphin. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday October 1, 2022, at Clemmons First Baptist Church located at 3530 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012. In lieu of flowers, the family would be pleased for you to make donations to the First Baptist Church or the Clemmons Fire Department.
