Mr. Robert ""Pop"" Childress, 88, of Winston-Salem Passed away Friday, July 3, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born March 24, 1921 in Surry County to Henry Curtis and Nettie Wilmouth Childress. Mr. Childress retired from P.H. Hanes Knitting after 49 years of service. He was a wonderful father. Mr. Childress loved his grandchildren and drag racing. He is preceded in death by his parents; Brothers, James and George Childress; sister, Mary Speaks; sons, Steve Morrison and Jerry Childress; grandson Ricky Cox. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Lottie Hepler of the home; son, Larry and wife Elaine of High Point; 2 daughters, Kathy Cox of Winston-Salem, Linda Fearington and husband Tootie of Lewisville; daughter-in-law Judy Childress of King; 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 2:30PM Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Parklawn Memorial Park with Dr. Bud Owen officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until 3:00PM Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln.. Winston-Salem, NC 27103.The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home and Clemmons Nursing and Rehab for the loving care they gave Mr. Childress.
