Dr. Robert Strickland Boyles, passed away on July 14, 2016. He was born on July 27, 1930, in High Point to Elwood Boyles and Lee Strickland Boyles. He attended High Point College and completed his B.A. degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1952. He graduated from the UNC School of Dentistry in 1957 and moved to Winston-Salem to establish his dental practice. After retirement, he volunteered at Samaritan Ministries, Forsyth Memorial Hospital, and as a tax preparer for members of AARP. He was a member of the New Horizons Band the Salem Band. He enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, beach trips, mountain picnics, baking, baseball, and his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Elwood Boyles Jr. and Dr. Paul Boyles. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy; a daughter, Elizabeth Campbell (Lee) of Mocksville; two sons, Robert Boyles Jr. (Susan) of Coppell, TX; and Dr. Michael Boyles (Susan) of Winston-Salem; a sister, Marjorie Welch (John) of Akron, OH; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Frances Boyles and Dr. Frances Campbell (B.J.); grand-children Justin and Jacob Campbell, LTJG Robert, III James, William, and Sarah Boyles. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016 at Messiah Moravian Church with Pastor Jerry Harris officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall. A private graveside service will be held for the family. Memorials may be made to Samaritan Ministries or the donor's choice.
