Mr. Robert E. Lilly Sr., 76, known to his family and friends as “Bob”, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born August 10, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. After an adventurous childhood building churches with his adoptive Dad, George, Bob graduated high school and later moved to North Carolina which he made his final home. He began a career at Westinghouse/Turbo Care from which he retired after 36 years of service. Bob was a man of few words but had a large presence. He was known for his friendly “never met a stranger” demeanor and his twinkling eyes. He was very generous, a hard worker and although oftentimes quiet, he knew how to bring a smile to your face with one of his jokes or one of his big bear hugs. He was always willing to lend a helpful hand to anyone in need. He loved spending time with his grandsons, his son and his daughter-in-law (who he often referred to as his daughter) and his numerous friends. He enjoyed working in his and his neighbor’s yard. He also enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles. He took many trips across the United States on his Harley Davidson and loved to reminisce about the beautiful places that he and his friends had seen. He was preceded in death by his birth mother; Mary Ellis, his siblings; Lourice, Doris and William, all who he developed a relationship with later in life, and his adoptive parents; George and Frances Lilly. Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Victoria Lilly; son, Robby Lilly (Karen); and two grandsons, Brandon Lilly and Austin Lilly (Molly); and his sister, Penny Peters. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 22 at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall, NC with Pastor Jayne Radionov officiating. Interment will follow. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the caregivers at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital Surgical ICU, as well as the Ninth Floor Trauma Step-Down Unit for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, Attn: Finance, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC, 27103.
