Cary, NC - Mr. Robert “Bob” Joseph Lain, 92, of Cary, NC passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Bob was born April 10, 1932, in High Point, North Carolina to the late Rev. Carl Anderson and Ruby Ballard Lain. He graduated from Central High School in High Point, NC and played the trumpet and football. Following High School, he attended college for a time before entering the U.S. Navy where he was involved in underwater demolition. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he returned to High Point working for a time at the family lumber yard before starting work with 3M in the mail room. He remained with 3M throughout a professional career in which he traveled around the world twice sharing his knowledge and out-going personality. Bob enjoyed teaching others and was a guest lecturer for the N.C. State Furniture Manufacturing and Management program. He retired from 3M an Executive Vice-President. Bob served on the Board of Directors of McGregor Downs County Club and was President of the Club for one term. He was a member of the N.C. State Wolfpack Club for over fifty years. In Bob’s spare time he enjoyed golf and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Barbara Jones, Joyce Nesbit, and James (Jimmy) Lain.
Left to cherish his memory are his soulmate, Linda Brinkley; one son, Bobby “Bob” Lain, his wife, Melinda Lain; one grandson, Tristan and his wife, Therese Lain.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the First Cary Methodist Church in Cary, NC with Rev. Ray Broadwell and Rev. Ben Alexander officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm at Floral Gardens in High Point. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America, at PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
