Robert Blythe

Robert "Bob" L Blythe, Sr., 83, entered eternal peace February 8, 2018, at his home in Fort Walton Beach. Known as Bob by family, friends and co-workers, and Papaw to children of all ages, he was a loving husband and family man. Always present, engaged and teaching, he led by example. He never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face and treated everyone with compassion. May we all carry his legacy of kindness and compassion on in our lives. Bob was born in March 1934, to James O. and Ophelia Blythe in Forsyth County North Carolina. He attended from Mineral Springs High School. He worked at R. J. Reynolds while attending drafting school at Forsyth Technical College. In 1967, after drafting school, he moved to Alabama to further his education. While attending the University of Alabama, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science and Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering, he taught drafting at Berry High School and worked for Jeff Coat Engineers. In 1977, after graduating from the University of Alabama, he moved to Florida to become partner in the firm Humber, Almond and Blythe Engineering. After many years of partnership, he went out on his own and formed Blythe Engineering where he worked until 2010. After "retiring" from Blythe Engineering he continued to work out of his home until 2017. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ophelia; brothers James O. "Buster" Blythe Jr., Philip Blythe, and William "Bill" Blythe; brother-in-law's Curtis Joyce, Phillip Joyce and Jerry Joyce and sister-in-law Dean Cheek. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Charline Joyce Blythe; their son, Robert Blythe, Jr.; their two grandchildren Michelle Noll (Todd) and Robert "Trey" Blythe III (Angela Gulbrandson); two great-grandchildren, Clara Madison Williams and Bradley Kane Blythe; sister-in law, Mary Lou Noah; and brother-in-law, Dan Joyce. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the local office of the American Cancer Society, 99 Eglin Pkwy NE, Fort Walton Beach.
