Robert Leroy Bailey, Sr.

Mr. Robert Leroy Bailey, Sr., 85, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009 at his home. He was born August 4, 1924 in Bennettsville, SC to William and Sarah Summerlin Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a member of Freeman Street Baptist Church. He retired from Piedmont Concrete after 47 years of service and also worked for Forsyth Technical Community College in the maintenance department. Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Abbott Bailey and two brothers. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Ellis of Walnut Cove, Lisa King of Pinnacle and Wanda Bailey of Winston-Salem; two sons, Robert Bailey, Jr. of Mocksville and Don Bailey of Winston-Salem; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Helen Caudle of Winston-Salem and Estelle Burris of Albermarle and two brothers, Bill Bailey and Kenneth Bailey both of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Bob Whitaker and Rev. Rick Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with military rites by V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
