Mr. Richard J. ""Dick"" Zeitvogel, 72, of Bermuda Run, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Zeitvogel was born on March 6, 1939 in Manhattan, NY to Albert and Elsa Sauer Zeitvogel. He acquired a B.S. Degree from Cornell University, where he was also a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 3rd Armored Division Artillery Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany. He was the CEO/President/Founder of Alpine Beverage Distributing, Inc., a beer and wine distribution business. Before his retirement in 2000, Mr. Zeitvogel was a winner of numerous awards from Stroh Brewery Company and Adolph Coors Company. He was very active within his work environment and community. He served as a member on the Stroh Brewery Wholesaler Advisory Panel and board of directors of the North Carolina Beer Wholesaler Association. Dick was not only active within his work environment, but also within his community. He served as vice chairman of the Davie County Planning Board, served on the board of directors of the Somerset Owners Association, was a past president of the Highlands Homeowners Association in Bermuda Run, and chairman of Homeowner Association and Litigation committee. Mr. Zeitvogel enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and grandchildren. He was a resident and active member of Bermuda Run County Club, as well as an avid golfer and member of the 50+strong Ritter group. He enjoyed poker and was a member of the Fellowship of monthly poker group. Mr. Zeitvogel enjoyed traveling throughout the world, skiing and vacationing at his beach home in Pawley's Island, SC. He also was a licensed single and multi-engine rated commercial pilot. Mr. Zeitvogel was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Zeitvogel; two sons, Steve Zeitvogel of Winston-Salem, and Rick Zeitvogel and wife Kimberly of Charlotte; a stepson, Cade Coleman and wife Heather of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Payton and Cole Zeitvogel and Logan, Alexa and Cooper Coleman; and a brother, Fred and wife Tinka of Weston, MA. A funeral mass will be conducted 10:00 am Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. A. J. Gallant officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
