Richard Wayne Hartman went home to be with his Lord on November 13, 2024, in Winston-Salem, NC at the age of 84.
Wayne was born November 25, 1939 to Orville Lee and Viola Fishel Hartman in Davidson County, the youngest of their eight children. Wayne graduated from North Davidson Senior High School in 1958. He married Rhonda Jean Leonard in 1962, and they shared 62 years together.
A career machinist, he retired from Fairchild Industries in 2001. Wayne joined Reedy Creek Baptist Church in 1970, taught Sunday School, and served as a deacon for 50 years. He continued his education at Piedmont Bible College in the early 1970s. Wayne was honored to have served as a lay minister at several churches in North Carolina and Virginia. He and Rhonda welcomed their son Mark in 1971.
Wayne’s humor and generosity of spirit carried on throughout his life. In addition to his career and Christian life, he was an avid golfer and a life-long learner. He enjoyed doing a great deal of research on his genealogy, family history, and the history of northern Davidson County.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, C.D., Gene, and John; and sisters, Ethel James, Edna Essick, Ruby Weaver, and Emma Jane Locklear.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda of the home; son, Mark Hartman of New York, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, with Pastor Ben Farrell officiating.
