Richard Steele

Mr. Richard "Hugh" Steele, 74, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at his home. Hugh was born in Iredell County to Lonnie Knox and Edith Crouch Steele on November 6, 1943. He was a long time member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was church treasurer and a very active member. He graduated from Guilford College and then went to Wake Forest University where he graduated with a master's degree in business administration. Hugh retired from Fairchild Industrial Products as CEO after many years of service. He was an avid Wake Forest supporter and a longtime member of the Deacon Club. Hugh loved vacationing at North Myrtle Beach where he played golf and enjoyed his family, Hugh was a loving a husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marie Steele; daughter, Kim Smith and husband Mike of Winston-Salem; Grandson, Richard Smith and wife Kim of Winston-Salem; Grand-daughter, Abigail Smith and fiancé Luke Spencer of Winston-Salem, two sisters, Libby Campbell and husband Alan; Debbie Church and husband Mac all of Statesville; four brothers, Jimmy Steele and wife Beckye of Kansas; Frankie Steele; Billy Steele and wife Paula; Robert Steele and wife Ann all of Statesville; also surviving are precious nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Angel Christ officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Fifth Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Cool Springs NC. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Monday, August 6, 2018.
