Richard Eugene Shutt, Sr.

Mr. Richard Eugene Shutt, Sr., 92, passed away at his son's home in Burlington, N.C. on May 28, 2015. He was born April 25, 1923 in Forsyth County to the late Ralph Joseph Shutt and Pearlie Thomas Shutt. He was a longtime member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. He attended Clemmons School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Western Electric and was a member of Southfork Volunteer Fire Department, Jonestown Civic Club, and the Jonestown Senior Citizens Club. Mr. Shutt was preceded in death by his wife Irene Parsons Shutt and subsequently preceded in death by his wife Shirley Grandy Shutt. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Cumby, Margaret Aldridge, and Faye Southern; brothers, Frank Shutt and R.J. Shutt. He is survived by his children, Gene Shutt and wife Dorothy, Bob Shutt and wife Debra, and Sandra Shutt Jackson; his grandchildren, Dennis Jackson, Jr. and wife LaDonna, Andy Shutt and wife Erin, Ben Shutt and wife Heather, Kathryn Getsinger and husband Greg, Forrest Shutt and fiancée Jessica Young, Steven Jackson, and Robyn Jackson; his great-grandchildren, Jordan Shutt, Logan Getsinger, Caleb Shutt, Hayden Shutt, Tanner Shutt, Carson Shutt and Reece Getsinger. A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Earl Crow and the Rev. Keith Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
