Mr. Richard ""Dick"" Rogerson, 93, of Winston-Salem, died Thursday afternoon at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Rogerson was born October 1, 1915, in Chowan County to Henry S. Rogerson and Emma Gertude Rogerson. He attended and played football at Duke University and Appalachian State teachers college, graduating in 1939. He spent 1969-1982 in Atlantic Beach as the proprietor of the Dick-a-doo Motel and ran Dick's Landscaping Company off and on from 1940-2004. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church for many years. Preceding him in death was his wife Bonnie Mae Dotson Rogerson. Surviving are three children, Pat Shelton of Lewisville; son, Richard ""Joe"" Rogerson and wife Debbie of Rural Hall, NC, and Lynn and Ronald Shouse of Pfafftown, NC. Mr. Rogerson had eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Rogerson of Jonesboro, GA, and Edgar Rogerson of Wake Forest, NC, and a sister Elizabeth Wright of Edenton, NC; also surviving is a special friend Helen Coon. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the church on Sunday. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 2, 2008 at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Peter Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church Building Fund 5125 Shattalon Dr. Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
