KERNERSVILLE - Mr. Richard 'Pearl' Joseph McKaughn, 86, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. Pearl was born on August 2, 1927, in Forsyth County to the late Avery Pearl and Martha Jones McKaughn. He retired from RJ Reynolds with over 36 years of service and was a member of Kernersville Friends Meeting. Pearl was an avid, avid Duke Basketball fan and also a fan of Atlanta Braves Baseball! He enjoyed saltwater fishing and loved spending time with his wife and family at a vacation home on Harkers Island. In addition to his parents, Pearl was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Margie Nelson McKaughn. Surviving are two daughters, Vicky (Norman) Denny and Carolyn McKaughn; one son, Richard 'Dick' Glenn (Martha) McKaughn; five grandchildren, Denise Marie Watson, Dina McKaughn, Jenifer McKaughn (Alan) Hall, Bryan King (Eva) Denny, and Richard Joseph Denny; four great grand children, Austin, Bryana, Preston and Evan; and a twin sister, Lucy McKaughn Armstrong. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Dr. Jerry Gibbons officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a private committal at Mt. Gur. Memorials may be made to Kernersville Friends Meeting, 320 North Main Street, Kernersville, NC 27284 or charity of donor's choice.
