Richard 'R.J.' Markland

Mr. Richard ""R.J."" Jackson Markland, 91, of Advance, NC passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 10, 1920 in Davie County to Louis Oaks and Sallie Bell Lyons Markland. Mr. Markland was a member of Elbaville United Methodist Church and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He retired as a self employed carpenter. He was preceded in death by his son, his daughter, five brothers and two sisters. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Mildred Myers Markland; four sons, Richard, Gaither, Larry and Carleton; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; four special rodeo kids and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Elbaville United Methodist Church with Rev. Adam Stewart and Pastor Will Pryor officiating.
