Mr. Richard Patrick Lortie, 92, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Pennybyrn at Mayfield in High Point. He was born June 24, 1926 in Chicago, Ilinois, the son of the late William and Mary Alice McNamee Lortie. Mr. Lortie attended St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1950 and was a Gunners Mate with the US Navy during World War II (Pacific Theater) and Korean Conflict. He worked for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and United Engineers & Constructors as a Consulting Engineer and was a member for over 50 years of the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was Founding President and life member of the Northwestern Chapter of PENC and a life member and fellow of the American Society of Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilating and Refrigeration Engineers (ASHRAE). He was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was Past Commander of Post 55 of the American Legion, Past Chef DE Gore 40/8 Society and Past President of Winston-Salem Engineers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ann Lortie. Survivors include his wife 71 years, Mary Alice Cornwell Lortie; four children, Rita Ellen Meredith (Doug), Patrick Richard Lortie, Jayne Alice Wright (Randy) and Michele Terece Valle (Peter). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please donate to Samaritan Shelter, The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. The arrangements are by Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
