Walnut Cove - Richard ""Red"" Aaron Litaker, of Walnut Cove, entered into eternal life on March 4, 2009. Richard was a loving father, loyal friend, and a beloved son, he was born in Forsyth Co. July 15, 1941 to Mattie Sue Nelson Litaker and the late Dennis Ulmer Litaker. He had an illustrious career with the United Steel Workers of America for over 20 years. He had a great personality and sense of humor with an incredibly positive outlook on life that touched all who knew him. He was an outstanding man who loved fishing, hunting, cooking, and gardening. He was a devoted friend and dedicated family man. Richard was a very strong and independent man as he faced his illness head-on for five years. He battled his cancer with determination and courage, undergoing numerous treatments. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Annie Litaker Culler, two brothers, James and Henry Litaker, and a grandson, Jonathan Taylor Lynch. Surviving are; three daughters; Sheila L. Kiker, Amy Hernandez and husband Rene all of Walnut Cove, and Victoria Lynn Smith of Kernersville, a son; Aaron Darrell Litaker of Amarillo, Texas; two grandsons, Austin B. Smith and Matthew L. West, and five granddaughters; Danielle Broome, Whitney Lynch, Emily Lynch, Ashley Lynch, Hailey Smith; and a great granddaughter, Keeley Countryman, his mother, Mattie Sue Litaker of Kernersville, one sister, Barbara Moser and husband Jerry of Winston-Salem, three brothers, Preston Joel Litaker of Kernersville, Bill Litaker and wife Faye of Wilson, and Joel Litaker and wife Robin of Wallburg, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved all very much. He had numerous friends with special recognitions; to R.V. Wall and Jerry Atkins whom he had fond memories of their hunting and fishing days, longtime friends, Lawrence and Gloria Wall, Tina Nolen and very special friends Butch and Jan Whitaker who were very supportive of him throughout his illness. His greatest best friend was his pup Rudy. He will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends 4-6 pm Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel by Rev. Pete Kunkle. Entombment will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville.
