Kernersville - Richard Eugene Hudspeth went home to be with Jesus on September 20, 2021, following several years of declining health. He was born in Forsyth County on January 28, 1935.
Richard loved his Savior, Jesus with all his heart, and adored his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many caregivers who provided him loving, tender care at home for the last several years of his life. He was a man of God, a faithful husband, a loving Daddy, a provider and protector of his family, and a friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Edna “Sudie” Hudspeth; his mother and father, Ethyl and Clarence Hudspeth; sister Shirley Ball, and sister Carol Rothrock.
Richard is survived by his daughter Deborah Honeycutt (husband, Michael); his son Rick Hudspeth (wife, Jean); his grandchildren Chelsea Richardson (husband, Matt), Caleb Hudspeth (wife, Erin), John Teeter (wife, Taylor), and Michaela Teeter; and his great-grandchildren Xander and Evie Hudspeth.
Richard enjoyed sharing many old stories of his younger years with his family and caregivers. He retired from Merita Bakeries after 40+ years of service, where he was affectionately known as “the iron man”.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank all those who cared for Richard. Their ministry does not go unnoticed by Almighty God, and by all those who love Richard. Without these folks, the family could not have kept Richard and Sudie in their home, where they desired to be, and for this we are forever grateful. In particular, we thank Chris Curry, Anita Koerner, Terrie Stafford, Sarah Curry, Lashanda Ladson, Tina Smith, Megan Williams, Ashley Williams and Faye Porter (dear friend and personal “barber”). Thanks also to all others who cared for Richard in recent past years.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 1pm at North Pointe Church, with the Rev. Darrell Greene officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A private interment will follow the service.
Although he was physically unable to attend church with Sudie for many years, in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Richard’s memory to: North Pointe Church, 5225 High Point Rd., High Point, NC 27265.
Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
