Mr. Richard Hoit Jones, 95, respectfully known as "Rich" of Winston-Salem, peacefully passed away at his home on July 13, 2023. He was born in Forsyth County to the late Christian and Flossie Brewer Jones, on October 29, 1927. He was a truck driver and a farmer. He drove dump trucks for Pope Sand and other companies and a gasoline tanker for Mid-State Service Company for 50 Years and retired at the age of 75. He received the million-mile award for safe driving, and never had a wreck. He farmed, raising tobacco, corn and an awesome garden. He stopped raising tobacco back in the 70's and focused on his garden. He had the best sweet potatoes around. He was always willing to give his plentiful crop to any that wanted, loved sharing. He also had some of the best chicken stews around. He would help cook the stew for his Sunday school class and he also held his own Chicken stew at his shed every year around the end of September. He would invite relatives, friends and neighbors to enjoy the food and fellowship.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Lee Jones and brother, Holland Jones.
He is survived by; two daughters, Melisa Carter (Glenn) and Teresa Tucker (Tim); three grandchildren, Alissa Lindsey (Dusty), Josh Carter and Nicholas Tucker (Rachel); three great grandchildren, Kyleigh and Waylon Graves, and Emma Carter.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, July 17th at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Elder J.R. Gardner presiding. The burial will follow the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, July 16th at the funeral home.
