Kernersville - Mr. Richard ""Slim"" Lee Haynes, 86, passed away June 11, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Richard was born February 15, 1930 in Guilford County to the late Curnal Francis Haynes and Louise Smith Haynes. He was an Electronic Technician at Western Electric/AT&T for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Richard loved woodworking, and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J. Wesley Haynes and his sister, Martha Leonard.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Annie Carroll Haynes; three sons, Rev. Randy Haynes, Mark Haynes, and David Haynes (Maureen); five grandchildren, Ryan, Joseph, Leah Gonzalez (Rodrick), Brian and Matt. One great- grandson, J.D. Gonzalez; one sister, Margaret Teague (Ralph); three sister-in-laws; Delores Laughlin and Loretta Calhoun both of Greensboro, and Elizabeth Forrest (Tony) of Advance.
A service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family would like for memorials to be made to the Union Cross Volunteer Fire Department at 4401 High Point Rd. Kernersville, NC 27284.
