Richard Meade Guillan

Clemmons Mr. Richard (Dick) Meade Guillan, 91, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013. He was born March 1, 1922 in White Plains, NY to the late Harry and Amy Dufour Guillan. Mr. Guillan was a member of Unity Moravian Church. He retired from TWA as an airline captain after 38 years of service. He later owned ""Rambling Springs Ranch"" in Glendale Springs, NC where he grew frasier fir Christmas trees. He also co-owned Coast to Coast Hardware in Elkin, NC. During his early flying career he learned to navigate by the stars and flew open cockpit planes with plywood wings. During WWII, he worked as a flight instructor with the Army Air Corps. One of his favorite hobbies was restoring antique cars, including a 1920 ""Baby Grand"" touring Chevy. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy Guillan; three daughters, Becky Guillan, Candi Cape, and Janis Carey; five grandchildren, Shannon Parks, Stacey Manley, Jeff Cape, Jr., Daniel Cape, and Natalie Carey; six great-grandchildren; also surviving is a brother, Bruce Guillan. A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Unity Moravian Church Graveyard with Rev. Dr. Bill McElveen officiating.
