Mr. Richard Allen ""Brownie"" Gerlinger, 83, of Bermuda Village passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011. He was born July 23, 1928 in Findlay Ohio and lived to the age of 10 in Fostoria, Ohio. The family moved to Toledo where his father started a distribution business. He graduated from Libbey High School in Toledo and attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He completed his BA degree at the University of Toledo in business administration. He was a member of the Ohio National Guard and was activated during the Korean War in 1951. He returned and began work in his father's company, ultimately becoming president until his retirement. In 1950, he married his college sweetheart Janet Jenkins Guinn who survives him and lives in Bermuda Village, Advance, NC. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Toledo serving on the finance committee and as council president. He was active in the Boys and Girls clubs of Toledo, the Rotary Society, the Toledo Zoological Society and coached little league baseball. He was a member of Inveness Country Club in Toledo serving a term as president, the Toledo Country Club and Rockwell Springs Trout Club of Castalia, OH. He lived on Lake Keowee in Salem, SC where he enjoyed golf, fishing and boating during his retirement. He also provided Meals on Wheels in rural South Carolina. Mr. Gerlinger is survived by his three children, Bruce A. Gerlinger, M.D. and wife Sue of Osseo, WI, Lynn Sutherland and husband Stephen of Perrysburg, OH, and Lisa Gerlinger of Swanton, OH; grandchildren, Sarah Sutherland of Seattle, WA, Ian Sutherland of Missoula, MT, and Greer and Graydon Weaver of Swanton, OH; cousins, Barbara Nuenighoff and husband Fred and Carol Van Zanten and husband Rudy, all of Pinehurst, NC and his companion rescue dog, Maggie. A memorial service will be held 11:00am Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Bermuda Village with Dr. William Hoyle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
