Richard "Dicky" Claude Millard

Richard “Dicky” Claude Millard, 71, of Kernersville, NC, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 17, 2025, his 71st birthday. Born on January 17, 1954, in Marion, VA, Dicky was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech, class of 1976. He worked for Hanesbrands for over 25 years, retiring in 2021. A lifelong Hokie fan, Dicky’s love for Virginia Tech Football was unwavering. He was a season ticket holder for football for over 35 years and even when he was no longer getting season tickets, he still tried to attend as many games as he could.

To know Dicky was to love him. His deep faith and love for God were at the core of who he was and his kindness and warm smile were a gift to all who knew him. God created him to be a Dad and Papaw, and he over-excelled at both roles. His greatest joy was his family, and above all, he was proud to be a devoted Papaw to his beloved grandson. His legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, papaw, uncle and friend. He was loved beyond measure and will be missed every single day.

Dicky was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Claude O. Millard and Ida Malene Millard.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan Millard; their three children, Kendall Burkhead (Chad) of Stokesdale NC, Brian Duncan of Kernersville NC, and Chris Duncan of Greensboro NC; and his cherished grandson, Cade Burkhead. He is also survived by his two brothers, John Millard (Bonnie) of Salem, VA and Ray Millard (Tina) of Lynchburg, VA and is remembered with love by his nieces, nephews and their families.

A service to honor Dicky’s life will be held on Monday, January 27th, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home in Marion, VA. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery also in Marion, VA.
