Richard Gray Byrd, Sr.

Mr. Richard Gray Byrd, Sr., 83, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born December 13, 1931 in Forsyth County, the son of the late Richard John and Hallie Fraizer Byrd. Mr. Byrd was a veteran of the US Army and was retired from the US Postal Service following 29 years of service. He was active in the National Association of Letter Carriers and the Communication Workers of America. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Felker Craven Byrd and a son, Michael A. Byrd. Survivors include one son, Richard Gray Byrd, Jr. and wife, Karen of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Lori S. Montgomery of Lake Helen, FL; three grandchildren, Eddie Poitras and Amber Montgomery of Lake Helen, FL and Amanda Everhart and husband, David of Welcome; and four great grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
