Richard Leon Burton

BURTON KERNERSVILLE - Richard Leon Burton, 54, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born March 22, 1954 in Forsyth Co. After a 10-year employment with RJR, Richard became a buyer in the purchasing department for Tradewinds Airlines. He attended Gospel Light Baptist Church and was a member of the Auditorium Sunday School Class. He loved to fish and play horseshoes with his family. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, O' Shea & Oscar Burton and father, Leon Oscar Burton. Surviving are his loving wife, Jane Steelman Burton; one brother, Wayne O. Burton; one sister, Sandra Rose (Larry); father-in-law, James Steelman, Sr; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and step-mother Loraine Burton. A Funeral Service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Gospel Light Baptist Church by Dr. Bobby Roberson, and the Rev. Frank Shumate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Kernersville Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersville. A special thanks to 9-North Tower Nurses and Staff at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, who took such wonderful care of Richard.
