On September 10, 2012 , beloved father, son, brother and uncle, Richard Edmund Bovender died unexpectedly at his home. ""Rick"", son of Richard Roy and Linda James Bovender, loving brother of Thomas Burke Bovender and Lori Fay Bovender Howey, was born on March 15, 1967 in Winston-Salem. Rick's passions were the life he shared with his parents, his siblings, his friends and especially and foremost spending time with his beautiful daughter, Audra Helena Bovender. Scouting was Rick's interest while growing up. He was an officer in the Wahissa, a member of the Order of the Arrow and an Eagle Scout. Rick was a 1985 graduate of North Forsyth High School and a 1989 graduate of Western Carolina University where he involved with the Chancellor's Ambassadors, Western Gold, and Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity. Starting at age 10 the Moravian Church Band became an enriching part of Rick's service to his church, as well as it was his joy to work with the youth ministry and New Philadelphia Moravian and Raleigh First Moravian Churches. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Rick was an employee of Silk Road Technologies. He is survived by his daughter, Audra Helena Bovender of Cary, NC , his parents, Richard and Linda Bovender of Winston-Salem, his brother Burke Bovender and his wife, Tonya of New Philadelphia, Ohio, his sister, Lori Bovender Howey and her husband, G. Parker IV of High Point, NC, three nieces, Tally and Stella Bovender and Cassidy Howey, one nephew, G. Parker Howey V, and Audra's mother, Catherine Ross Clukey of Cary, NC. A service to celebrate Rick's life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 15, 2012 at New Philadelphia Moravian Church, 4440 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC. A reception will follow immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Audra Bovender's college fund may be made by sending a check made out to ""NC 529 Plan"" to Richard Bovender, 170 Valencia Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
