KERNERSVILLE - Rex Robert Binkley, 86, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 26, 1922 in Forsyth Co. to the late Jim and Sue Robertson Binkley. Rex was a member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville and a charter member of VFW Post 5253. He was a WWII United States Army Veteran 91st Division, 348th Field Artillery Battalion, having served in Rome-Arno, Northern Apennines, and PO Valley. He received the EAMET Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars, the American Theater Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Rex retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 25 years of employment. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Comer Binkley of the home; two children, Mona Holmes and husband Bill, and Kenneth Binkley and wife Tina all of Kernersville; six grandchildren, Charles Hawley, Jason Binkley, Kenny and Jenny Binkley, Ronald Vergantino and Paul Hess. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday, December 21, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Kernersville with Dr. Stephen Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home Kernersville Chapel. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 401 Oakhurst St., Kernersville, NC 27284.
