Reverend Dr. William W. ""Bill"" Marr, Sr., 79, was promoted to Heaven, Wednesday, April 10, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born August 7, 1933 in Catawba Co. to the late Rev. William Walter Marr and Margie Hallman Marr. Bill served his country proudly during the Korean War in the United States Navy. For twenty years Bill has served as pastor of Northridge Baptist Church in Rural Hall. As a 1951 graduate of Hickory High School, he received his bachelor's degree at Piedmont International University, formerly Piedmont Bible College, his masters at Blue Ridge Christian College and his doctorate at Andersonville Theological Seminary. Bill was active in the work of the Lord as he served as Instructor at Piedmont's Evening School, president and vice-president of the NC Bi-Vocational Pastor's Conference and trustee and co-founder of Vision of Hope Ministries. He was also the organizing pastor of Northridge Baptist Church. He was a dearly loved pastor, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed greatly by all who knew him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, John Drinnen Marr, six sisters, Inez Burnette, Ann Allison, Mabel Honeycutt, Mary Setzer, Mildred Jones, and Margaret Mahoney. He is survived by his wife Glenda Williams Marr of the home, a daughter, Rachel Marie Marr of Winston-Salem, two sons, William W. Marr, Jr. of Greensboro and Darrell Edward Marr and wife Penny of Hickory, three granddaughters, Angela Marr Harbert (Eric) of Mooresville, Megan Marr of Hickory and Amber Webster of Winston-Salem, one great-grandchild, Mason Harbert of Mooresville, two sisters, Nancy Marr Duckworth (Harold) of Hickory and Betty Marr Laster of Waxhaw, two sisters-in-law, Marie S. Hill of Browns Summitt and June S. Marr of Hickory and many nieces and nephews Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Northridge Baptist Church in Rural Hall with Rev. Chris Byrn, Rev. Eddie Brackett, Dr. James Pollard and Dr. Hoyle Bowman officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow in Rural Hall Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 prior to the service at Northridge Baptist Church in Rural Hall. Pallbearers for the service will be active and inactive Deacons of Northridge Baptist and honorary pallbearers will be the members of Winston-Salem Prayer Group. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to; Northridge Baptist Church, 7911 Ketner Farm Rd., Rural Hall, NC 27045.
