Reva Bertrice S. Hoots

Mrs. Reva Bertrice Smitherman Hoots, 95, of Winston-Salem, died Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2017 of natural causes at The Life Care Center of Banner Elk, NC. ""Bea"" lived with her son, Michael and wife Barbara just outside Banner Elk for 4 ½ years until it was necessary for her to go into skilled nursing the last 10 months of her life. Bertrice was born on August 4, 1921 in Yadkin County to Pearl and ""Ped"" Smitherman. She graduated from Yadkinville High School in the class of 1939-40. Bea raised her family in Winston-Salem and was an active member of Salem Baptist Church for many years. She had been employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, Piedmont Bible Book Store and lastly Davis Department Store in Thruway Shopping Center until retired. She had a sister Lorene and brother, ""Tink"". Bertrice was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Hoots in 2000. Surviving are two sons, Raymond J. Hoots, Jr. (Ann) of Cleveland, GA and Michael S. Hoots (Barbara) of Banner Elk, NC; three grandsons, Matthew (Lollie), Benjamin (Kristin) and Kent (Julie), all of Georgia and with seven great grandchildren among them. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017 at Enon Baptist Church in Yadkin County with Rev. Floyd Boles officiating. There is no stated visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bea's memory to the charity of the donor's choice.
