As a minister, Reverend Troutman was particularly proud of the work he did in Wise, VA as pastor/developer of Christ Lutheran. In 1985, Reverend Troutman was named the Wise County, VA Citizen of the Year due to leading the development of a Food Bank Ministry which still serves hundreds of families in the area. Reverend Troutman has been an active member of Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem for the past 19 years, serving many years of his retirement as Volunteer Pastor of Visitation. His pastoral work always extended past his immediate congregation to the whole community, serving as a Volunteer Chaplain to local hospitals and fire departments.
