Rev. Lewis B. Swaim

Rev. Lewis Benjamin Swaim, 81, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011. He was born January 5, 1930 in Forsyth County. Rev. Swaim graduated from Griffith School and High School in 1948. He attended Moravian College and Moravian Seminary from 1948-1955 in Bethlehem, PA. He married Eleanor Virginia Ruth on June 6, 1953. The first church he served as an ordained Moravian minister was Union Cross Moravian Church in June of 1955. Other churches he served were Providence Moravian Church, Greensboro Moravian Church, Immanuel Moravian Church in Wilmington, NC (which he started), Rolling Hills Moravian Church in Longwood, FL and Kernersville Moravian Church. He was the first director of Board of Homeland Missions, retiring in 1995, and was visiting pastor at Trinity Moravian Church. He also did special preaching at many churches. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Virginia Ruth Swaim; two sons, Bruce Alan Swaim of Bowie, MD, Steven Mark Swaim of Raleigh, NC; and one grandson, Alex Swaim of Bowie, MD. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15th at Fairview Moravian Church with the Rev. Scott Venable officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
