Rev. John Howard Sherman

Rev. John Howard Sherman, 77, of Lewisville, NC, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012. Rev. Sherman was born January 8, 1935 in Cranford, New Jersey to the late Russell Eldridge and Irene Campbell Sherman. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict in the US Marine Corp attaining the rank of Sergeant. After the war, he graduated from Piedmont Bible College with a Divinity Degree. Rev. Sherman pastored at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Mishawaka, Indiana, Corinth Baptist Church in Nashville, NC, and Broadway Hills Baptist Church in Midway, NC. After retiring from the ministry, he worked for Kroger for many years before retiring from the grocery business. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents, Rev. Sherman was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell Eldridge Sherman, Jr., Norman Campbell Sherman, David Sherman, and Roger W. Sherman. Surviving to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 50 years, Dixie Moody Sherman of the home; a daughter, Rachel Sherman Mello and husband, Steve of Holden Beach, NC; three sons, Scott Sherman and wife, Tammy of Wilmington, NC, Brian Sherman and wife, Valerie of Spartanburg, SC, and Craig Sherman of Charlotte, NC; 8 grandchildren, Danielle, Brandon, Brittany, Matthew, B.J. Andrew, Joshua, and Brooke; 2 great-grandchildren, Bella Rae and Noah Michael; several nieces and nephews and extended family. The Sherman family would like to express their appreciation to all the caring Doctors, Nurses, and CNAS that cared for Rev. Sherman during his illness. A Funeral Service will be conducted Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel officiated by Family and Friends.
