KERNERSVILLE - Rev. Hubert Van ""H.V."" Nelson, 82, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 28, 1925 in Rockingham Co. to the late Sam and Sally Cardwell Nelson. Rev. Nelson served in the United States Army during WWII, and the European Theater under Gen. George Patton. He was a graduate of Piedmont Baptist College (Piedmont Bible College), and had pastored churches in NC and VA for over 37 years. He also taught in the public school system in Siloam, Westfield, and Vanceboro, NC and in Gladeville, VA. Surviving are his wife of over 62 years, Betty Jean Crowder Nelson; three children, Myrna Nelson Jamerson and husband J.A of Sanford; Rev. Van Nelson and wife Ressie of Winston-Salem, and Joy Nelson Solari and husband Dr. Ted of Beckley, WV; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday, August 18, 2008 at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville by the Rev. Van Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to The OAR Foundation-Scandinavia Project, 110 Ashbourne Lake Court, Clemmons, NC 27012 or Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
