Rev. Arthur Rufus Livengood, 88, of Pinnacle passed away at his home on Thursday, July 7, 2011. He was born October 10, 1922 in Forsyth County to the late Walter Lee and Annie Wood Livengood. Rev. Livengood was a graduate of Louisburg College and Duke Divinity School. Prior to entering the ministry, he was employed by Piedmont Airlines. He was a minister in the United Methodist Church, serving churches in Mt. Airy, Pinnacle, Winston-Salem and Clyde, NC. Upon retirement, he lived in Pinnacle, NC in the home that he built. He loved farming and taking care of his livestock, but more than anything he loved the Lord and serving Him. He gave his last sermon at Shoals United Methodist Church on June 12, 2011. Rev. Livengood was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and served in combat 14 months. He was loved by more people than he could have ever imagined. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin and Carl Livengood; and sisters, Estelle Beckner, Nora Ketner, Carrie Shields and Iretha Sowers. Surviving is his wife of 69 years, Gladys Hege Livengood of Village Care in King; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Jane Livengood of Oak Island, NC, Dwayne and Glenda Livengood, Max and Lu Livengood, both of Pinnacle, NC; four grandchildren, Aaron, Heather, Joshua and Adam; two sisters, Frankie Campbell and Louella Davis, both of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Raymond Livengood, of Winston-Salem, and Francis Livengood of Lewisville. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in King, NC with the Rev. Joseph Fulk and the Rev. David Childers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and also immediately after the service of celebration on Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church.
