Rev. Roscoe Lynn Johnson

KERNERSVILLE-Rev. Roscoe Lynn Johnson, 72, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011. He was born September 28, 1938 in Burlington to the late Norman and Joy Coble Johnson. Rev. Johnson was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church, and a graduate of Piedmont Bible College. He was ordained at Peoples Baptist Church by Rev. Cecil Moore, and served two churches during his ministry, Willow Grove Baptist Church in Waynesburg, PA, and Liberty Baptist Church in Rockingham, NC. Roscoe was a retired insurance agent, and had also graduated from Nashville Diesel School in TN. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Earl B. Johnson. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Bernice McCurdy Johnson; two daughters, Natalie Thrower of Mooresville, Michelle Hooker of Winston Salem; one brother, Lewis Johnson and wife Joyce of Walkertown; two nieces, Mary and Sarah Johnson; and one nephew, David Johnson. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, January 21, 2011 at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Chuck Peters and Rev. William Gindlesperger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
