Rev. Jesse Floyd Holyfield, 97, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday, January 9, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born May 16, 1914 in Surry County to Mary Ida Wood Holyfield and Charlie Anderson Holyfield. He graduated from John Wesley College in High Point, and was ordained on June 1, 1952. Rev. Holyfield served as Pastor of a church in Galax, VA and a church in Winston-Salem for many years. At his 90th birthday, he received The Long Leaf Pine Award from the Governor, which is the highest award given to a citizen. Rev. Holyfield was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Holyfield and David Holyfield. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Annie Louise Holyfield; four children, Sarah Shelton (Frank) of Kernersville, Jimmie Holyfield (Joan) of East Bend, Mark Holyfield of Pinnacle and Becky Thompkins of Winston-Salem; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; one sister, Molly Rich and two brothers, Charlie Holyfield and Richard Holyfield. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Steve Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.
