Rev. James Henry Hicks, Jr.

Rev. James Henry Hicks, Jr., 46, of Walkertown passed away Friday, November 8, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 27, 1967 in Forsyth County to James Henry Hicks, Sr. and Mona McGrady Hicks. He taught in the WS/FC School System and at Forsyth Technical Community College. He was an ordained Moravian minister and served as a Chaplain for the Volunteer Fire Department in Walkertown and with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. James enjoyed reading about the history of the Civil War and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He also enjoyed tracing his family genealogy. Surviving are his wife, Sara Hughes Hicks; a son, James Vance Hicks; a daughter, Katherine Lynn Hicks; his parents of Lexington; his grandfather, John E. McGrady, of Traphill, N.C.; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Russ Williams officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Old Roaring River Baptist Church in Traphill, N.C. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Old Roaring River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Robert McDaniel, 11156 Longbottom Road, Traphill, N.C. 28685. Online condolences may be made
