Rev. Rufus Francis Culler

Rev. Rufus Francis Culler, 91, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Rev. Culler was born on January 7, 1922 in Forsyth County to Charles Monroe Culler and Margaret George Culler. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from October 1941 through October 1945. Rev. Culler married the love of his life, Rachel Rothrock on February 10, 1945. He attended Piedmont Bible College and became an ordained Baptist minister. Rufus served as Pastor at Northwoods Baptist Church in Winston-Salem for 17 years and Antioch Baptist Church in Goldston, NC for 23 years. Rev. Culler was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Walter, William, Joseph, and Ronald Culler and one sister, Margie Brown. Rev. Culler is survived by his wife, Rachel Rothrock Culler; two sons, Danny Ray Culler (Karen) and Ted A. Culler (Vince); one daughter, Sandra C. Spaugh (Mike); two grandsons, Josh Culler and Edward Culler; one granddaughter, Meredith Anne Spaugh; and two special nephews, Donnie Stewart and Dennis Rothrock. Funeral services for Rev. Culler will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Jim Thompson and Rev. Christa Warise officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park with full military honors by V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
