Rev. Derry Ray Barnhardt

Rev. Derry Ray Barnhardt, 74, of Advance passed away Monday, September 8, 2008 at his home. He was born February 17, 1934 in Davie County to Olin Lewis and Edna Carter Barnhardt. Rev. Barnhardt, an ordained minister, had served several United Methodist Churches in the Western North Carolina conference and was the current Minister of Visitation, at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Ommie Sue Barnhardt; three sons, Derry Barnhardt Jr. and wife Jeri of Pfafftown, Mac Barnhardt and wife Robyn of St. Simons Island, GA and Alan Barnhardt and wife Pam of Monroeville, AL; six grandchildren, Laura, Alan, Miles, Sarah Baker, Maggie and Paden; four sisters, Helen Everhart, Ann Barnhardt, Emily Ford, and Freda Schlaman and two brothers George Barnhardt and Gray Barnhardt. A memorial service will be held 4:00 P.M. Friday at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem with Dr. Earl Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and request casual dress for the service.
