Mr. Reuben “Wayne” Haynes, 89, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Surry Co. on October 25, 1935, the son of the late Frank and Foy Barker Haynes. Wayne was a faithful and active member of Woodland Baptist Church for over 60 years. He drove a bus route for 15 years, served as superintendent for the Junior Church for many years and served as an usher for over 20 years. Wayne retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in the research and development department. He and his wife Mary loved children and fostered many children for over 20 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 2019, Mary Swift Haynes; two daughters, Janie Phillips and Elizabeth Haynes; four brothers, and two sisters. Wayne is survived by his two sons, Frankie Haynes (Carolyn) and Timothy Haynes (Hope); a son-in-law, Dr. John Phillips; eight grandchildren, Ben Phillips (Lucy), Andrew Phillips (Hannah), Luke Phillips (Samantha), Colby Brim (Tyler), Tanner Haynes (Ashley), Chance Haynes (Hannah), Bradley Haynes (Amy) and Kaylan Wrightson (Grant); and 14 great-grandchildren, Major, Owen, Rosie, Eli, Evie, Ezra, Ellington, Sheppard, Tate, Palmer, Hattie, Emmy, Ava, and Barrett. He is also survived by two sisters, one brother and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with Pastor Tim Gammons officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Mount Airy. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service at Woodland Baptist Church.
