Reginald Sidney "R.S." White, Jr.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC-Mr. Reginald Sidney ""R.S."" White, Jr., 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Brookridge Retirement Community. R.S. was born on June 9, 1928 in Lynchburg, Virginia to the late Reginald Sidney White, Sr. and Sadie Mae Martin White. He graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA in 1946. Following high school, R.S. served his country in the United States Army during World War II. After being discharged from the Army, R.S. attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in 1952 with a B.A. Degree. He was the second place diver and first place trampolinist in the Southern Conference during his time at UNC Chapel Hill. R.S. retired from Western Electric and was a faithful member of Ardmore Baptist Church where he served in numerous capacities. Music was a big part of R.S.'s life. He sang in the Tobacco Belt Chapter of the SPEBSQSA and a barbershop quartet. R.S. was an accomplished artist and everyone admired his artistic creations. Mr. White is survived by his wife, Inez White of the home; one son, Mark S. White (Cindy) of Cary, NC; one daughter, Beverly W. Iredale (John) of Durham, NC; a step-granddaughter, Amanda I. Collins of Marion, NC; and three step-great-grandchildren, Kaleb Collins, Joshua Collins and Ana Collins. A celebration of R.S.'s life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Ardmore Baptist Church with Dr. Don Gordon and Rev. Christa Warise officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or the Parkinson Association of the Carolinas, 5970 Fairview Rd., Suite 217, Charlotte, NC 28210.
