Rebecca "Nanny Becky" Mccreary

Mrs. Rebecca Sue Lawson “Nanny Becky” McCreary, 76, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 at her home. She was born in Surry County on July 9, 1944 the daughter of the late Canie Weldon Lawson and Ella Frances Wood Lawson. Nanny Becky was of the Baptist faith and a true woman of God. She was an in-home childcare provider, who helped raise more children than she could count. She loved to cook and bake and always supported her community. Nanny Becky was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, who will be missed deeply by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Christine Samuel, Alvis Lawson, Mae Phillips, Perry Lawson, Wilbert Lawson and Davis Lawson. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Melvin Thomas McCreary; two daughters, Angel M. Owens (Jeff) and Temple M. Blevins (Justin); two granddaughters, Lindsay Owens and Kirby Owens Hunter (Dustin); a step-grandson, Austin Blevins (Sonya); three great-grandchildren, Ocie Belle Hunter, Kindee Rae Boyd and Lottie Sue Hunter; a step-great-granddaughter, Abree Blevins; two sisters, Frances Lawson Gunter and Faye Lawson Southern; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Brim’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Roger Vaden officiating.
