Mrs. Rebecca King Smith, 59, of Advance passed away early Wednesday morning, February 24, 2010 at her home. She was born February 18, 1951 in Forsyth County to Joe Harding and Helen Michael King. Mrs. Smith has had an ongoing battle with ovarian cancer for the past five years. Through her battle, she had remained strong, never slowed down or gave up and always kept her sense of humor. She loved to garden, cherished spending time with her family and was well known for her love of children and her desire to sew. She was always looked upon as a mother to everyone including her many friends and family. Providing and caring for others were something that came natural and she passed this along to everyone that she met. Her last words to her family were ""my journey has ended."" Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her mother. Surviving her is her husband, T.C. Smith, Jr.; a daughter, April S. Newman and husband Jeff; two sons, Trent Smith and Dustin Smith; three grandchildren, Samuel, Elisabeth and Hannah Newman; her father, Joe King; a brother, Thomas King and three sisters Eileen Dunn and Phyllis Hayes, all of Advance and Deborah Foltz of Lexington. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Swisher officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be made to www.hayworth-miller.com. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is serving the family.
