Rebecca Jane Brown Day, 86, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord Wednesday, November 14, 2012. She was born January 3, 1926, in Pinnacle, in the shadow of Pilot Mountain, N.C., to Lela May Butner Brown and Henry Houston Brown. Becky graduated from King High School as salutatorian and completed her B.S. degree in Home Economics and Music at Salem College. She was married to William Henry Day for 57 years on April 24,1948. Becky spent several years as a tailoring instructor, special education teacher, retail management, government researcher, and most importantly a loving and talented homemaker. She was a lifelong Moravian with her roots in King Moravian Church and also helped organize the first Moravian Fellowship in Burlington, N.C. Most recently, she was a member of Ardmore Moravian Church where she was active in the choir and the Womenâs Fellowship. She also sang with the Moramus Chorale for many years. Becky enjoyed many activities, foremost music and travel. She was a talented soprano, piano player and flutist. She also enjoyed reading and playing bridge. Her adventuresome spirit took her around the world as she traveled extensively and participated in several cultural exchanges with Friendship Force International. She spent her recent years at Salemtowne where she was engaged in many activities including the Salemtowne Singers and making her award-winning baskets. She leaves behind a daughter, Malinda J. Day of Winston-Salem; a son, H. Neal Day and wife Martha of Cedar Grove, N.J., two grandchildren, Heather J. Day of Pittsburgh, P.A., Neal B. Day of Montclair, N.J.; a special cousin Mildred Park, and several nieces and nephews. Her devoted husband Bill and her young sister Sarah Malinda awaited her in heaven. A celebration of life is being planned. Final resting place will be in God's Acre in Old Salem. Memorials may be made to the Moramus Chorale, Ardmore Moravian Church Music Fund, King Moravian Church Music Fund, or Salemtowne Assistance Fund.
