KERNERSVILLE - Mr. Rayo Claudius Holston- a man as unique as his name, 79, died Friday, April 12, 2013. Rayo was born on March 24, 1934 in Pulaski County, VA to the late Christopher Howe and Mary Eddie Howlett Holston. He joined the US Navy in 1951 serving in the Korean Conflict until 1955 - one of his most cherished times of his life. Rayo spent his life working with computers. He worked at Eastern Airlines for over 25 years, sold Apple Computers for 10 years, then went on to open his own business, Education Division Computer Services. EDCS was responsible for implementing the first computers into classrooms in North and South Carolina Schools. He was a life long member of the Elks Lodge and headed their North Carolina College Scholarship selection for over 25 years. Rayo was a lover of all sports. He found the time to coach his sons' soccer teams, and thus helped lead the formidable Waxhaw Wally's to a gold medal victory in the 1987 N.C. State Games. Above all, he was a wonderful father, brother, friend and companion, and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Rayo was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Gregory and Mildred Wheatley; and one brother, Paul Holston. Surviving are his two sons, Daniel Holston (Katie) of Waxhaw, and Chris Holston (Hannah) of Charlotte; one daughter, Susan Baker of VA; a special friend, Nancy Campbell of Kernersville; six grandchildren, Iris and Roan Holston, Kari Clay, Justin Baker (Jessica), Erynn Baker and 'Baby Holston' due soon; two great grandchildren, Nolan and Taylor Baker; one brother, Wally Holston and one sister, Beveridge Hall. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013 at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA. A memorial service will follow at Comfort Inn in Dublin between 2-4pm Friday. An additional memorial service will also be held at VFW Post on The Plaza in Charlotte, NC on Sunday, April 21 from 2:00-6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to The Elks National Foundation - Charlotte Elks, 5118 Princess Street, Charlotte, NC 28209 (memo: scholarship foundation).
